May 2021 - A day in the life of a First Aid Nursing Yeomanry

Camberley Athena WI's speaker for May's Zoom meeting was Donna Leech, an experienced First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) volunteer.

Founded in 1907, FANY is an all-female voluntary organisation - on call 24/7, 365 days a year - which deploys rapid response teams to support civil and military authorities in times of crisis.

We learned that over the past year, they have provided immense support in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the past, they have had vital roles

during both World Wars, as well as in modern times; such as the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London Bridge, as well as the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire.

Donna is also passionate about reducing food waste, helping the homeless and refugees from Calais to Kosovo; as well as here in the UK. Her unwavering dedication and compassion was a real inspiration to us!
